Christian Dior: one more loss
Posted on April 16th, 2007 at 8:56 am by admin

The French Christian Dior fashion house has hardly had time to go through the changes connected with Hedi Slimane`s leaving as there befell one more loss. This time - tragical. 38-years designer Steven Robinson - John Galjano’s right hand has suddenly died. He was for Galjano not only a trustee and a friend, but also an irreplaceable colleague without whom Dior collections would look completely different.
After graduating prestigious Epsom School of Art and Design in the age of 17, Robinson started to work with John Galjano as the trainee - assistant. Then they together went to Givenchy, and later - to Dior. Since then Robinson and Galjano always had worked together, and, although the first always remained in a shadow of the second, each collection was always created by them as equals.
«We will miss Steven very much. But we believe, that his energetics and enthusiasm will stay in our memory for ever», - the president of the French fashion house Sidney Toledano has told.
John Galjano was on vacation on Mauritius Island, but when he knew about the tragedy, he immediately returned to Paris. «Steven was my “anchor”, my best friend, the person without whom I cannot imagine my work. We went to success together, since the very first days. He was not a public person and did not search for glory, but he had skills to organize, join and manage our creative family. He will stay irreplaceable for me … », - the designer told.

Fashionable Japanese handbags
Posted on April 13th, 2007 at 7:51 am by admin

One of the up-to-date names in the Japanese fashion - Kenji Ikeda, the handbags designer from Osaka. This charming young man has left native Japan in the age of 14 years to live in Spain, Great Britain (where he received a degree of the accessories designer) and in France where he worked for Givenchy as a fancy goods designer.
Today his handbags are produced by the best designers in Japan. They use only the most magnificent materials, and handbags quickly acquire “must-have” status among the most well-known Tokyo inhabitants.
The first “launch” of his KENKENKEN collection took place in September, 2004 in Tokyo. The exhibition made grandiose success and became very popular among such known shops, as LOVELESS, Ships, Beams, Nano Universe, Opaque, Adam*Rope, Bassett Walker, Tomorrow Land, The Ginza, Restir, Shinjyku Isetan Re-Style, etc.
The designer dreams to create a brand which will go through him. And also he would like to see, that Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garcons founder, carries his bags.

Female disease named «nothing to put on»
Posted on April 12th, 2007 at 9:01 am by admin

If one fine day you find out that
   All clothes in your wardrobe look awfully;
   And fit even worse;
   You do not have money to the decent clothes;
   Therefore, nobody can like you

- it means, that you became a victim of the most widespread female illness «there is nothing to put on». But there are some simple and cheap ways to prevent it.
If the man says, he has nothing to put on, it means, he does not have anything clean and if the woman says so - she does not have anything new. It is simple truth.
So another truth that each woman should have in her wardrobe some clothes in classical style to combined everything with them:
A direct skirt;
Jerkin;
A small black dress;
Jeans;
Pair of different colored blouses;
Long cardigan;
Black shoes “pumps”.
First you should select all that is possible to wear. And remember «a gold rule»: if the thing was not put on at least for a year, it means, you can easily throw away it.
The following step – to decide, whether it is necessary to change all the clothes or it is better to add something to them.
Small addition - new blouse, trousers, headscarf, handbag or footwear “will refresh” a favourite suit.
One item of clothing will help to return two - three things at once! But avoid the main mistake - do not buy the sixth white blouse or the twentieth black trousers, only because they are the easiest choice.
And the most important - as though it may seem strange, trust your intuition more and don’t be afraid to buy things which you liked at first sight.

Care for skinny models
Posted on April 11th, 2007 at 8:40 am by admin

France Health Ministry said that it will not ban skinny models from Paris to catwalk but will announce a voluntary document to make the fashion industry think of the health risks of being very thin.
Designers, model agencies and others involved in the fashion industry have been actively recruited for promoting of an exhausted look which critics say leads to eating disorders in young girls.
Some countries, for instance, Spain, Italy, Brazil and India have taken underweight models off their podiums because of concerns, which drew wide media attention after the deaths of two anorexic Latin American models in 2006.
In France fashion is a huge business. Luxury goods that are often advertised by young thin models which can be seen in posters and on podiums, account for a large export.
French fashion federation head said in January that Paris would not take additional measures to officially forbid very thin models appear in podiums as rules on their food were strict enough. However, concern remains.
The Paris city council voted some weeks ago to influence fashion show organizers to stop using thin girls but the Health Ministry said it was declarative step and it could not force the whole industry to change its habits.

Valentino has created a collection for Wolford
Posted on April 9th, 2007 at 7:41 am by admin

One of the largest tights and stocking manufacturers - Wolford – once again invited one well-known designer. For example, «autumn - winter 2006/07» collection this Austrian trade-mark has created in cooperation with Kenzo. And this time legendary Italian fashion designer Valentino has been invited for design of a new collection.
In exclusive line there are 5 “bodies”, and also some models of tights and a stocking. Valentino has transformed these things into the true haute couture masterpieces, having decorated them with bows, frills, beads and pleating. The collection is made in a favorite palette of the Italian maestro – black, an ivory and, certainly, red.
«I have already included in some my collections original tights and stockings. I used an embroidery, prints and different styles. In this case tights became key element of an image, and I am glad, that I can offer this principle to many women now », - commented Valentino his work with Wolford. «We are going to attract the most exacting clients, who will estimate a glamour and grace. Our buyers, certainly, will be pleased with combination of the high style and quality of our production », - said Holger Dahmen, Wellford’s chief manager.

Fashionable coquetry
Posted on April 6th, 2007 at 8:31 am by admin

Marmalade clothes are always in a cheerful mood and in a little bit coquettish style.

In the future season designers Olga Shilova and Anastasiya Sergeeva have remained devoted to that very chosen style. Marmalade likes and can work with different dresses, trade mark creates them slightly uncommon, but without unnecessary details, with thought over cut and with various silhouettes. Overalls, blouses “in a floweret”, waistcoats and fur coats have been noticed and distinguished in a collection from the trend things.

Defile stylistics matched the clothes emphasizing the maiden mood and charm. Designers actively used accessories and ornaments in naive style: grids with onions, books, wearing berets, fox fells and big glasses. All this has introduced the necessary grotesqueness and irony. It is obvious, Olga Shilova and Anastasiya Sergeeva are girls with humour, well, and humour, as everybody knows, - sure sign of wit.

Spring Vogue tendencies
Posted on April 5th, 2007 at 7:50 am by admin

Marni Designers suggest long tunics with short, striped trousers. In spring Dries Van Noten collection you may find a sports dress, certainly, with a hood and sports shoes on a high heel. Gotje and Donna Keran (DKNY) again start developing «the poor student» style (but it appeared very rich) – lacerated clothes, patches and every possible applications. And Vera Wang, known for the romantic wedding dresses, tries to make sport clothes more light.
Romantic dresses in this season are distinguished by their flying forms. But the main distinctive feature of this spring, perhaps, became plenty of fabric flower bouquets– roses, peonies, violets. Designers welcome not only flower pictures, but also applications and flower ornaments. Yves Saint Laurent models have been dressed in flower dresses on the show, and also went on a podium, made as a fragrant field of alive violets.
80s are again in a fashion - Alessandro Dell’Acqua recollects his youthful club years in Milan, having created dresses with metal belts. In Paris Peter Dundas, Emanuel Ungaro designer, suggests evening dresses of bright, juicy colors and certainly with big cuts, thus recollecting time of blossoming popularity of such models, as Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington.

Milan Fashion Week: Gucci collection
Posted on April 4th, 2007 at 8:43 am by admin

When designer Frida Giannini has shown womanly silk dresses and a blouse with flower and vegetative prints in style of the fortieth within the framework of the first collection for fashion house Gucci, her creations became true “hits”. In the future autumn season, having left ethnic motives of her summer collection, gifted designer again has returned to her own style as the basic inspiring moment. The designer has declared, that creation of a new autumn collection was impelled by biography of Lee Miller, a woman who started her career as a model and then became the photographer in Vogue. Besides style of the 30s and 40s, with its abundance of dresses with high set waist and accent on shoulders, has found reflection in the new collection.
Giannini has concentrated her attention on silhouettes with fluffy shoulders and narrow, long sleeves, having added the note of feminity by deep low necks and a naked back - in traditional Gucci style. As the idea of the 40s became popular in this season again, dresses in that very style became the basis for the autumn collection.

Hedi Slimane has left Dior
Posted on April 3rd, 2007 at 7:56 am by admin

Rumors that man’s collections designer Hedi Slimane is going to leave Chistian Dior went for a long time. Last June designer has shared with the public his plans concerning creation of the own trade-mark. Since that his relation with owners of LVMH holding to which belongs Dior, have become complicated appreciably. A day or two ago holding management has decided to drive the nail to the head and finally break off business relations with Slimane. It would seem, the public was ready to such rearrangements, but all the same Slimane`s leaving became a news.
Hedi Slimane was replaced by Belgian designer Kris Van Assche, who worked in Dior for some years, together with Slimane as well – till 2005, when he started his own label. LVMH has chosen the talented Belgian, taking into account his excellent reputation, first-rate skills of sewing and indisputable design gift.
What will be now with Dior man’s collections? Only one thing is clear now – other stylistic direction will be chosen. Certainly, Slimane`s heritage should be taken into account, but «fresh spirit» should be felt – management of the French House is firmly convinced in it.

Paris Fashion Week: Elie Saab collection
Posted on April 2nd, 2007 at 7:33 am by admin

Beyonce, appeared at Golden Globes awards ceremony in a brilliant metallic dress, has proved once again, that Elie Saab is one of the most highly rated names among Hollywood celebrities.
This time the designer has concentrated his attention on the secular actions, which are not always shot by photo cameras and get into tabloid columns. Collection included one sleeve air blouses in 80s style and mini-stretch for night clubs fancy, coquettish dresses with an abundance of black laces for parties and long magnificent velvet dresses - for charitable balls.
There were no trousers, and the sizes of few in number shorts were microscopic on Saab fashion show. Lack of day-time models in Saab collection, especially on the eve of the opening of his first boutique in Paris, may be explained only one way - the designer, as well as his muses, has devoted themselves and their collection to the night life.
